LimburgLeAnne Limburg of Knoxville's Premier Surgical Associates was named Certified Medical Assistant of the Year by the Tennessee Society of Medical Assistants (TSMA) at their annual state meeting. The presentation was made during the installation of officers banquet held Saturday, May 15, at Cleveland State Community College.

"It is a great honor to be selected for this recognition," said Limburg. "As a medical assistant, I am the link between the patient and the physician; I help make sure everything runs smoothly. It is such a rewarding career."

Limburg earned her Medical Assistant degree from South College in 2000. "Medical Assisting is a very versatile program," she said. "It gives you both clinical and clerical training so you can work both sides of the office." She completed the two-year program and qualified for state certification. In order to maintain her certificate, she completes 60 hours of continuing education every five years.

South College Dean of Medical Assisting Dr. Anna Fritz introduced Limburg at the presentation. "I have described LeAnne as the Phoenix for her group at South College. When everything was in chaos, she would rise above the fray and pull everything together. She is a bright, capable and very dedicated health care provider."

Limburg began her career at Premier Surgical Associates and has been assisting Dr. Kevin Zirkle for the past four years. "LeAnne is a great asset to our office and our patients," said Zirkle. "She is definitely deserving of this award."

A ten-year member of TSMA, Limburg was also elected secretary for the state organization at the annual meeting. She will serve a two-year term. Her future plans include returning to South College to complete the Physician Assistant Studies program.
